Paul instructed the church at Philippi to esteem others better than themselves (Philippians 2:3). The Scriptures have many common threads of truth running through them. One being the principle of unselfishly considering others above ourselves. Something to remember concerning the teachings of the Word, is that wilful obedience to it always results in great reward. One translation of Proverbs 11:25 says “those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed”. When we are trusting the Lord for a breakthrough in a particular area, it’s easy to become so self-focused, we overlook the pressing needs of others around us. However, many times our breakthrough is manifest the moment we place the needs of others before our own. Faith works by love, so make a point of walking in love towards others, and being generous – while you’re believing for your own breakthrough. You will be amazed at the goodness of God that’s released right back into your life as you act in selfless generosity towards others.
