Trust and Obey

This is what the Lord said to Abraham. It was his call to step out, leave everything and follow the voice and instruction of God. In verse 4 we see Abraham’s response: he agreed to do just as the Lord instructed him.  Because of this one man’s obedience to the instruction of God, a wonderful unfolding of God’s plan for the generations to come takes centre stage. We read of the great faith of Abraham throughout the Old and New Testament writings. James 2:23 says, “And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: ‘Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.’ He was even called the friend of God.” God still speaks and directs His people today.  However, since we are born-again, we have His Spirit abiding within us, so we are able to always hear His voice speaking into our spirits. The same God that instructed and led Abraham in the way he was to go, instructs and leads us today.  It’s true that some will doubt the voice of God and step away from obedience, while others will obey and see the fulfilment of everything He promised them. Abraham made a choice to listen to God, believe His Word and obey Him. Obedience to God requires faith, and faith requires action! Never allow the pressures or circumstances of this world to take you away from where God is wanting to take you. Listen to His voice, believe what He has promised and do what He instructs you to do. Your active obedience will always position you in the place of His protection, increase and peace. He is a trustworthy God – if He has said it, He will surely do it, just trust and obey today!
