In Isaiah 8:6, it says the children of Israel refused to drink off the waters that God gave them. Instead, they looked towards other sources for help and life. They preferred to turn towards Egypt and Assyria for help, and not the Lord. As a result, they saw destruction. In the same way, if we choose to look for provision or safety, placing our trust in anything outside of God and the Living water of Jesus and His Word, we too will experience disappointment, defeat and misery. Jesus said, “but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The children of Israel made treaties with nations that opposed God. They made a choice to align with the enemies of God instead of God Himself. We must determine to keep our allegiance with God and His truth, and not compromise our loyalty to Him. Conforming to the world’s system or placing any hope for peace and security on anything it offers whether in the political, financial or medical arena will be a grave mistake. Trust in the Lord and let Him be the source of your life, the source of your peace and the source of your security, and you will never be in lack. Psalms 84:11 says, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
