Wait on Him

The spirit and systems of this world constantly push for us to become accustomed to demanding instant gratification. Almost everything can be acquired with very little effort and with almost instantaneous delivery. We’ve become used to a life where whatever we want we get, and we get it immediately.  In the kingdom of God we are taught that while some things are instant, others require more quality time to produce quality results.  That’s because God is a relational God, He is not a vending machine.  He requires for us to push aside from the hustle and bustle and instant gratification process that delivers short-lived gratification, to a meaningful, deliberate and sincere act of waiting on and meeting with Him. In the process of us waiting on the Lord, we are able to shift from the self-gratification mode, to one where we take our focus off of our selves, and place our attention and affection on Him.  This is where we seek His heart, learn from His ways, and treasure hearing His voice above everything else. Learning to linger in His presence where we can be filled with all of Him, since we have been given the Spirit without measure, is a blessing beyond description.  We soon realize that our purpose is to daily, lay down our own lives to live for Him.  And this truth becomes our joyful expectation because knowing Him is truly our reward. God is able to work instantly on our behalf when we respect and honour Him by choosing to draw near to Him and wait on Him.  The fruit that comes from abiding in Jesus is eternal and a clear indication of His resurrection life that is flowing in and through us – an inexpressible and incomparable privilege and joy that renews our strength. Something exclusively reserved for those who choose to wait on Him.
