What are you saying about others?

Did you know that the Word of God will produce physical health for our bodies through the correct use of our tongues? Proverbs 13:3 says, “Those who guard their lips preserve their lives…”  Now this doesn’t just mean how we speak over our own bodies; it relates to how we speak about others too.  1 Peter 3:10 says, “For let him who wants to enjoy life and see good days keep his tongue free from evil and his lips from guile (treachery, deceit).”  When we are careful to not criticize or join in conversations where people are speaking ill of others, we can expect days of blessing and joy! The opposite side of the coin is mentioned in James 3. We are warned about offensive words that roll off our tongues having the power to contaminate and corrupt our whole bodies!  In truth, whatever we say about others – whether it’s blessing or curse – will come right back to us and produce what we say in our lives. Many Believers convince themselves that if they just serve the Lord well in their responsibilities, no matter what they say about others, is justified. However, James 1:26 says otherwise! “If anyone thinks himself to be religious (piously observant of the external duties of his faith) and does not bridle his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religious service is worthless (futile, barren).” No matter how important or successful a leader in ministry is, he is not immune to the consequences of speaking ill of others, especially those of the household of Faith. Those who partake in their conversations are just as guilty and will defile themselves for doing so.  Proverbs 18:7-8 says the words of self-confident gossipers bring ruin to themselves as their words go down into the innermost parts of their bodies. A wise woman of God, Nancy Dufresne, said, “Spreading rumours and speaking ill of others is a fatal occupation from the standpoint of our health.”  So, let’s determine to obey God when it comes to our words, and speak words of kindness that bring life and peace over others. That’s because what we release from our tongues will always come back to produce exactly what we say.
