Written on Our Hearts

Some people complain of there being too many rules in the Word of God. They reason that they are unrealistic and too demanding for any person to faithfully follow. The children of Israel felt the same way when they were commanded to follow all the laws of Moses. However, they lived under the old covenant.

We have a new covenant through the finished work of the cross. Because of Jesus, we are able to live in the reality of the prophecy recorded in the book of Isaiah 59:21, that says God’s Spirit has written the law of God inwardly on the heart. Since the Holy Spirit lives within us, He empowers us to do God’s will. Philippians 2:13 says, “[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.”

As we choose to surrender to the leading of God’s Spirit each day – being careful to fill our hearts with His Word – He will teach us, lead us, and empower us to do His will in a way that becomes so natural and joyful. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light when we delight in Him and His way of living; and it always results in more blessing than we could ever contain!
